History and mission

Our mission and commitment to users

It was on the initiative of Marguerite Kirkland, a nurse, that a foundation was created at Champlain Hospital in 1991 to make life more pleasant for residents for whom the hospital is their permanent home.

Ms. Kirkland, with the help of Gilles Létourneau and Waguih Boulos, respectively CEO and Chairman of the Board at the time, took steps to establish the Foundation. In 1992, following the merger of the two establishments, the Foundation was called upon to also serve the Manoir-de-Verdun residential care facility.

The Foundation’s mission is to provide residents of each residential care facility with activities and a living environment that public funds, despite the good will of elected officials and civil servants, cannot provide.

Over the years, the Foundation has actively worked to improve the quality of life of users by allocating funds to adapt the facilities at both residential centers.

The Foundation wishes to continue its involvement in funding thematic activities, purchasing specialized equipment for seniors, and improving the living environment, and does not hesitate to respond to specific requests to meet particular needs.

The Foundation therefore wants to continue creating a high-quality environment for the well-being of residents.

A foundation is a matter of the heart

To successfully manage a foundation’s affairs, it is necessary to find individuals who are committed to the cause it supports. We all have parents, friends, or close acquaintances who are getting older. These people are likely to need the services of a residential care facility at some point. We all want it to be as appropriate as possible.

Over the years, in order to carry out all of these projects, men and women have effectively monitored issues affecting residents’ well-being through their active participation in the Foundation’s various bodies.
